What SSRS is
SSRS is SQL Server Reporting Services. It produces paginated reports: fixed-layout documents that look the same every run. The usual destination is a file share or an inbox, on a clock, from the same warehouse the Power BI model reads.
What it is for
Invoices, pick lists, statements, and operational packs that have to print or PDF without the layout moving. A dashboard you filter in a browser is a different job.
The consumer often never opens a workspace. They receive a document. That is still reporting. It is just not Power BI.
How it sits next to Power BI
I deliver both from the same warehouse. Grain and names have to agree. If they diverge, operations will trust neither.
SSRS is not a legacy leftover in that setup. It is the tool for the scheduled document. Power BI is the tool for the interactive page.
